Activities at SKMCCC

 

a)      Revision of State Action Plan on Climate Change

 

MoEFCC has advised the states to revisit & revise their respective State Action Plans on Climate Change (SAPCC) synergising with the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).  In this context, the process of revising the MP SAPCC has been initiated. A multi expert consultative group has been formed which has met twice to deliberate on the contents of SAPCC. The concerning departments have also given their comments on the respective chapters. A preliminary draft of SAPCC v2.0 has been shared with MoEFCC.

 

b)     Chief Minister's Scholarship for PhD on Climate Change

 

SKMCCC is anchoring & coordinating a prestigious scheme of Chief Minister's Scholarship for PhD on Climate Change, making MP one of the leading states in the country. This scholarship has been set up in 17 premier universities/ research institutes located in Madhya Pradesh viz. IIFM Bhopal, MANIT Bhopal, SPA Bhopal, IISER, Bhopal, IIT Indore, IIM Indore, Vikram University, Ujjain, JNKVV Jabalpur, IIITM Gwalior, TFRI Jabalpur, RVSKVV Gwalior and Dr. Hari Singh Gour Central University Sagar, AIIMS Bhopal, AIIMS Bhopal, MP Medical University Jabalpur, NIREH Bhopal, RVSKVV Gwalior, Babasaheb Ambedkar University of Social Sciences Indore, Jiwaji University Gwalior, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University Jabalpur and RGPV Bhopal.

Till FY 2018-19, the scholarships have been awarded to 11 candidates. Concerning institutes have been requested to send nominees for 2019-2020.

 

c)      Faculty Development Program on Climate Change

 

In compliance to the instructions of Her Excellency Governor of Madhya Pradesh, Faculty Development Programme on Climate Change is being jointly organized by CCCSD & SKMCCC, EPCO. The trainings are being imparted on various aspects of climate change, environment and sustainable development to the faculties of 23 universities located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. Each batch of training program consists of 35-40 participants.

Till March 2020, nine training programmes for 8 universities & 1 college in Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Ujjain, Amarkantak, Chitrakoot and Jabalpur were organized.

 

d)     Gandhi Prasang

On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, a series of programmes under the banner of ‘Gandhi Prasang’ from 02 October 2018 to 02 October 2019 were organized.

The theme of the Gandhi Prasang was ‘Gandhian Philosophy viz-a-viz Sustainable Development, Environment Conservation, and Peace’.

The key programmes in Gandhi Prasang series were Gandhian Environmentalism Talk Series, Gandhian Eco-Philosophy Fellowship and National Symposium.

e)       Certificate Course on Climate Change (C4)

 

A special training certificate course on climate change has been launched by SKMCCC in March 2018 with an objective to develop a cadre of professionals on climate change. The course covers a range of issues on Climate Change, Environment and Sustainable Development.

The programme is advertised in newspapers and on knowledge portal and the applications are invited online.

f)        MP Climate Change Knowledge Portal

 

For wider dissemination of climate change related information and meeting SKMCCC’s objectives, a bilingual, interactive & user friendly knowledge portal has been developed. The portal offers information, publications and other knowledge resources related to climate change issues of MP.

The portal includes some unique features like dynamic analysis of observed & projected data, assessing vulnerabilities of districts, rainfall & temperature trends, strategies chalked out in SAPCC, dedicated section for kids involving short stories and activities for engaging and encouraging young minds.

The portal is integrated with the climate dashboard developed in association with World Resource Institute (WRI). The portal has been hosted on the server of State Data Centre with URL  www.climatechange.mp.gov.in.
